Prayer, something I’ve known how to do since I was a tiny child. You go to God, you talk to Him, you get down on your knees, and because of the Holy Spirit, sometimes words aren’t even needed! (Romans 8:26) This year has been one of the hardest years of my life and the lives of the people I hold so dear to my heart. I always thought my prayer life was pretty good, but there is a different kind of prayer, a desperate prayer, that you pray when life has been the way it’s been in 2025.

Make time to get down on your knees and pray!

I’m not asking, I’m begging

Music is powerful in all times of life. There’s music for joy, for times of celebration, for sad times, for exciting times, and for times when we’re so broken we don’t know how to put into words what we feel. There’s a beautiful song by Jamie MacDonald (Desperate) Jamie MacDonald – Desperate (Official Lyric Video) that fully describes this picture of a person so desperate that they just get down on their knees and beg God. “I’m at the end of myself and I’m tired, I’ve tried all that I know to do.” We’ve all been there. So exhausted and worn down by the way the world is going, the things that are happening, the choices people are making, and the consequences that sin brings even if it’s not your own. When you’ve done everything you as a person can do, and all that’s left is to throw yourself at the feet of Jesus and lay it all down. “Oh God I’m desperate, down on my knees. Send help from heaven, cause that’s what I need. Redeem this wreckage. Restore my peace. I’m not asking, I’m begging. Lord, come through for me.”

When our lives feel like this ship, that’s sinking into the ocean to be a pile of wreckage, remember who you serve and get down on your knees and cry out to God.

I won’t stop knocking

“Prayed all the prayers I can pray but I won’t stop knocking ‘til you open the door.” When we come to the throne of God and present our requests, we have to be persistent, don’t stop knocking. I wrote an article a couple months ago about the power of a persistent prayer. A Persistent Prayer – Mustard Trees “You can move a mountain, You can calm a storm.” We serve a mountain moving, miracle working, mercy showing, perfect judging God! We have 24/7 access to His throne. He always has time for us, always hears us. Especially at our most desperate. Let this powerful reminder stick with you as you go about your day. The God who spoke everything into existence, listens to YOU when you pray. So let’s be a desperate people who go to God and pour out our hearts to him constantly. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Don’t ever stop knocking, don’t ever stop praying and pouring your heart out to God.
