Build your life wisely on the Rock

♫♪The wise man built a house upon the rock ♫♪, and so the children’s song begins. Yet, Jesus was teaching us all a very important lesson. How we build our house, “our life” matters. He wants our house to be strong and able to withstand the storms of life.  God gives us free choice, which is a gift, and He always tells us what the wisest choice is. Will you listen and build wisely?

“Anyone who hears my teachings and ignores it is foolish” `Jesus

Will you build wisely?

Jesus’ parable tells of 2 people, one built wisely on the rock, one built foolishly on the sand.  As we grow up, we learn that a house built on sand will eventually collapse or fall when water, wind or a storm comes along. Yet in this account, the one who built on the sand is the person who hears Jesus’ words and does not do what He said. They heard Jesus’ words; they weren’t an infidel with no knowledge of His teaching. You see we must listen and then act on what we hear. As you listen to the Lord, and then DO what He said, you will build wisely.

Our cover photo is a house built on a rock that continues to stand 120 years later. They built wisely. https://www.providencejournal.com/story/news/local/2023/11/06/whats-with-the-house-on-a-rock-off-jamestowns-coast-its-clingstone-ri-henry-wood/71327551007/

Doing what Jesus told us to do

I think about Jesus telling us to love one another.  Most every Christian woman can tell you that we should love our sisters in Christ. We know what we should do, that isn’t the problem. It is acting on that knowledge that matters. Will you love the annoying sister, will you love the bossy demanding sister, will you love the emotionally weak sister in Christ, or what about the one with continual health issues? You might ignore them or talk badly about them and disobey the Lord.  Knowing God’s word is great, but you are a foolish woman if you don’t put it into practice in your life. Are you building wisely by loving your sisters in Christ, or are you a foolish woman building on the sand?

Martha, Martha

Think about what Jesus told Martha, that she was worried and troubled by so many things, (good things even). Mary had chosen the better by sitting at His feet and learning from Him.  So, are you taking time to learn the things of God, are you studying and listening to the classes, sermons, or are you always bustling around with household responsibilities? Let me encourage you to build wisely and DO what Jesus said, and take time to be holy, and learn & study God’s word.

To conclude, I want each lady who reads this to build wisely, to listen to the words of Jesus and then act on them. The last verse of the kid’s song ♫♪ build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ♫♪. It’s not a coincidence that we are to build on the rock, that is Jesus, the Son of God.
