Who are you Raising Up?

Calling all grandmas and mothers, nanas and moms, mee-maws and mums, who are you raising up?  What child can you influence to make a difference in this world?  If I were to ask 100 Christians to name Timothy’s mother and grandmother, most couldn’t name these 2 ladies. However, many have heard of Timothy. In fact, there are 2 books of the Bible that were written to this young man.

Timothy’s Mother and Grandmother raising him up to know God and His word

“For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelled in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.” 2 Tim. 1:5

Lois & Eunice, a mother and a daughter were raising up Timothy to love God. They had a sincere faith that even Paul knew about. What a great testimony to their lives.  He had a Greek father that did not serve and obey the God of Abraham, but did that stop these ladies? No!

Raising them up from infancy

Even as an infant they were raising up Timothy to know about the Lord God. “You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from infancy you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation’” 2 Tim. 3:14,15

How can you teach an infant? I used to sing songs of praise to my baby when I was pregnant, and when they were fussy, I would sing to the Lord, so can you. I read Bible story books when they were able to sit with me, even as a little baby. As soon as they can start to talk, you can teach them to pray to God in Jesus name. Take them to the worship services, introduce them to God’s people. Read the Bible to them and start working on simple memory verses once they can talk.  Children have wonderful memories, the younger you begin, the more of God’s word they will have hidden in their hearts as they grow up. Are you raising up a godly child?

Raising up children that pray

Was it really a surprise when Timothy became an evangelist, a young man that was mentored by Paul, the apostle? Not at all! Here is more about TImothy His mother and grandmother understood the principle, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Prov. 22:6. These ladies’ sincere love for God, and enthusiasm to serve the Lord stirred Timothy up to greatness.

So today, I appeal to you mothers and grandmothers, who are you raising up? Whose life can you help shape to make a difference in this dark world and make a positive impact?

Last but not least, did you read last week’s article, “What is a woman” by Katie Green? It is well worth your time. https://mustardtrees.com/2024/07/16/womens-identity-is-under-attack-we-need-to-take-back-our-identity/
