Jesus told a parable about a vineyard owner, the gardener, and a fig tree with no fruit. What is the point of a fruit tree that doesn’t bear fruit? According to the Master, nothing, he wanted it cut down! Yet, the gardener spoke up and asked for 1 more year to care for the tree to help it produce good fruit.

You see this is like Jesus, He intercedes on our behalf to the Father, He is our great High Priest. He wants to give us ladies another chance to be fruitful. Will we respond to His efforts, so we can grow delicious ripe figs?
A Fruitful Tree
We have an apricot tree that stands almost as tall as our roofline. Yet, when we prune it, we cut it down to less than 5 feet tall, with only a few main branches left. There are piles and piles of branches thrown away after this hard prune. The first year we cut it, I was concerned if it would come back. It looked so dead after the prune. Yet, in the spring of the following year, that tree grew tall and strong and was loaded with delicious juicy organic apricots. It was amazing to see the good fruit and to have plenty to make homemade jam https://foodsforlonglife.blogspot.com/2009/07/how-to-make-organic-sugar-free-apricot.html

A Bitter Rotten Tree
Sometimes, we as Christian woman are not bearing good fruit. We need the Lord to come along and fertilize our hearts and cut away the bad, so we can grow that beautiful fruit. You and I have free will, and we can refuse the Lord when he comes to fertilize and dig around our roots. We can insist on hanging onto our branches of gossip, or our roots of bitterness, or the boughs of selfishness. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the Scripture tells us about an evil root of bitterness that can defile many. Let Jesus dig around your heart and remove any bitterness or anything else that is evil and festering there. Will we let the Lord cut aside everything that hinders, so we can grow good fruit?

If we are unfruitful for God’s Kingdom, remember the Lord’s mercy is new every morning, He wants to give us another chance to produce good fruit. That is why He made us! And we must also remember the warning that He gave us. He will cut our tree down if we persist in not bearing good fruit.
