Mother’s Day is coming up soon which means moms throughout the country will be receiving flowers and cards. Los Angeles Times posted an article in 2019 stating, “Mother’s Day overall is the third-largest holiday for the greeting-card industry, behind Christmas and Valentine’s Day, with 133 million sold for Mother’s Day.” That is a lot of Mother’s Day cards.
As a mom, it is so special to receive a Mother’s Day card from your children and family members. But what if Jesus sent you a Mother’s Day card?
What do you think Jesus would say to you on Mother’s Day?
Maybe you feel like Jesus would give you some advice on how to improve in this job he has assigned to you or how to take better care of the children he created. Maybe some moms would want that kind of advice, but I believe a letter from Jesus to moms would be full of compassion and grace.
When Jesus was suffering on the cross, he still took the time to care for his mother.
Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother,… When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
John 19:25-27
Jesus was both fully man and fully God. Jesus was taking care of his mother not just as a man, but he was taking care of a mom as God too. Jesus and God are one, so Jesus helped create the very woman who would later birth him and then at his death while suffering on a cross for the sins of the world, he saw his mother. Jesus took the time to see his mom and take care of her – I believe he is offering the same thing to every mom.
Jesus says; “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” -Matthew 11:28
If Jesus wrote a letter to moms, I imagine he might write something like this;
Dear precious mom whom I’ve created,
I see you. I placed you in this role and I gave you these children knowing you were the right person for these kids. You are doing a good job. I see how weary you are, and I am here for you. Do not worry, come to me and rest in my arms, I will take care of you! I love you and I will always be with you.
Love, your savior, Jesus.
He tends his flock like a shepherd:
Isaiah 40:11
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.
