Dangerous Times bring about Desperate Measures

Have you ever feared for your life? Remember what that adrenaline felt like, the terror coursing through your veins? Well, as a mother, have you ever feared for your child’s life? Maybe they needed lifesaving surgery, I remember when John gave our 3-month-old son to the surgeon to save his life, when he had hydrocephalus.  Or maybe there had been a bad accident, and your child was just hanging onto life.  The terror and fear you feel for them is great, you had to find a way to save your child!

Jochebed understood that terror and fear, and it prompted her to act accordingly. Dangerous times bring about desperate measures. The Pharoah of Egypt had ordered that every baby boy born to a Hebrew mother, would be thrown into the Nile River to drown, be eaten by wild animals or worse. You can read about that here: http://thenilerivertas.weebly.com/the-dangers-of-the-nile.html

The Nile Crocodile

A Special baby is born

Jochebed had given birth to a baby boy, and she knew he was no ordinary child. She was weakened from childbirth, but that didn’t stop her from desperately trying to hide him. At first, if she kept him fed, and hidden away, it was possible to keep his existence hidden from the Egyptian soldiers, but as her baby got older, and louder, it was no longer a possibility. She had to do something to save her child.

When her baby boy was 3 months old, she came up with a crazy drastic plan. She would place him in a waterproof basket in a part of the Nile River full of reeds, and have his sister watch over him.  Hoping and praying that no one would see or hear the baby, and her child would be saved. You can read all about it at Exodus 2:1-10

God had a plan

You see God had a plan for that baby; he would grow up to become Moses and lead God’s people to the promised land. God saw this desperate mother trying to save her child, and He helped her. Is it coincidence that Pharoah’s daughter came to that exact spot to bathe and hear the child and rescue him? Is it coincidence that Jochebed was paid to nurse her own baby due to his sister’s quick thinking? I think not, this is God at work.

The daughter of Pharoah saved the child from the Nile River and from death

Today, you might be the desperate mother trying to save your child, maybe not physically but spiritually.  There is a battle, and we have a real enemy that wants the hearts of our children to turn away from God.  Let’s take desperate measures to help guard our children’s hearts and minds, and point them to Jesus, who can truly save them. Let’s teach them to pray from infancy, encouraging their relationship with God from the beginning of their little lives.
