Jesus said the Kingdom of heaven would be like 10 virgins in Matthew 25: 1-13. Five ladies were prepared and sadly, five weren’t. In this parable He tells us how to prepare for His return, his 2nd coming. Are you ready?
A Parable
Please read Marette’s article to understand parableshttps://mustardtrees.com/2025/05/19/parables/ better:
The parable tells us there were 10 ladies who were to accompany the bride on her nighttime walk to her groom, but they didn’t know when he would come. Undoubtedly, Christian women today need to be ready for when Jesus returns for His bride, the church. We must not grow impatient or lazy about our preparations. He will come, are you ready for that day?
Five of the virgins had extra oil as they waited expectantly for the groom to come for his bride. You see preparation is an important part of our faith. Half of the virgins did not have extra oil, they weren’t prepared for the call to accompany the bride. Notice their demand, “give us some of your oil!” Yet, I can’t prepare for you, and you can’t prepare for me to enter heaven and join the great wedding feast. The parable teaches us to plan & prepare, for Jesus is coming again, are you ready?
Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Revelation 19:7-8

It’s okay to say no!
Next, the five ladies with extra oil answered correctly with a “No”. You might think this sounds harsh, because aren’t we supposed to share with each other? Not necessarily. When it comes to salvation and eternal life, each lady is responsible for her own choices. As disciples of Jesus, we must be the light of the world. Our burning lights show the whole world we are waiting hopefully for Jesus’ 2nd coming.

When I visited Israel with my husband John, I purchased an oil lamp that the virgins might have carried. It isn’t very big, about the size of my palm. They wouldn’t have needed a lot of oil to keep the lamp burning. It makes me wonder why they bought the lamp, but not the necessary oil to keep it burning during the marriage procession? We may never know why, but we can learn from Jesus’s lesson and be prepared.
Are you longing for His return?
To conclude, just before Paul the apostle died, he wrote his son in the faith these words…” Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.” Jesus wants us longing for the day He appears with His mighty angels. Are you ready for that day?
